Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave Therapy is a powerful, non-invasive treatment that’s been trending for its ability to tackle stubborn pain and accelerate healing like never before. It’s the latest tool in our well-rounded arsenal, and some patients even seek it out as a standalone treatment.
Developed during the late 1960s in Germany, this technology was first used clinically in 1980 to safely shatter kidney stones, making them easier to pass. Later, while studying its effects on soft tissues, researchers discovered that shockwaves increase circulation around injured tissues, which begins the regenerative process. They also found that shockwaves overstimulated the nerves, causing the pain to decrease.
Ever since, Shockwave Therapy has undergone lots of research and is approved by the FDA. At Foundation Sport & Spine, we use this therapy in complement to our other treatments to provide our patients with holistic care.
Many of our patients love this therapy and report considerable reduced pain immediately after the treatment. Although the pain isn’t reduced to zero in a single session, patients can expect to see the pain reducing noticeably week by week. Please see the figure below for an illustrative example:

Shockwave Therapy works amazingly for musculoskeletal injuries like Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow, Rotator Cuff Injuries, etc.
